This isn't just where I work. It's why I started this in the first place.
I struggled with my weight my whole life. But it really got out of control when my son was on the way — I gained 50 pounds during my partner's pregnancy.
When my son was born, his mom snapped right back. She looked amazing. I still looked pregnant.
Then in the span of two weeks, three things happened.
I went to my high school reunion and an old friend made a comment about my weight that landed hard — the kind of comment you don't shake off easily, even when it comes from a friend who means well. A few days later another friend asked me what I weighed. I got on a scale: 220 pounds. The heaviest I'd ever been. He didn't sugarcoat it. "What are you doing? Why are you going this direction?"
Then I went to a doctor I'd just met for the first time. She looked at me and said, "You know — you could stand to lose some weight."
So I started.
The first month, all I did was walk on a treadmill. One hour a day. That was it. Then I started learning. Lifting. Eating differently. Six months later I'd lost all the weight — and for the first time in my life, I had abs. The thing I never thought I'd see in the mirror.
What I didn't expect was what came next. Friends started asking how I did it. And every time I got to share what I'd learned and watch someone else start their own journey, it became the most fulfilling thing I'd ever done.
So I went all in. I studied. I shadowed personal trainers. Eventually I started coaching on my own. And now I get to do it every single day at Ventura Fit Body — where I've watched dozens of people make the same kind of transformation I did, and a hundred more I never would have predicted.
That's why this gym exists.
If you're sitting where I was sitting, I want you to know: you don't need to be ready. You just need to start.
